Air Canada Agents Strike

Posted on June 14, 2011

MANAGERS PITCH IN AS AIR CANADA WORKERS STRIKE

After union negotiators balked at the airline’s proposals to revamp pensions, customer service agents at Air Canada walked off the job shortly after the clock ticked past the strike deadline at 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

The airline said it has contingency plans in place to maintain its full flight schedule, aided by more than 300 managers and nearly 1,400 non-union staff at nine major Canadian airports.

Air Canada has advised travelers to check in online up to 24 hours in advance, arrive at the terminal earlier than usual and avoid checking luggage if possible.

Air Canada has stated that all existing bookings will be honoured, and future bookings are welcomed.

Travel Resources continues to monitor the situation and will provide our clients with information as it becomes available.  We also recommend that travelers utilize the on-line check options prior to arrival at the airport and where possible only have carry-on luggage.
