British Airways Strike Looms Again

BRITISH AIRWAYS STRIKE LOOMS AGAIN AS COURT SAYS VOTE VALID

Travel Resources received news today that British Airways cabin crews plan to strike next week in a dispute over pay and staffing levels after a court overturned a ruling blocking the walkout.

The U.K. Court of Appeal has said that the Unite union’s failure to provide a breakdown of ballot results didn’t render the vote on work stoppages invalid. A five-day strike will begin on May 24 unless there’s a breakthrough, the union said.

British Airways says a walkout would ground 30 percent of flights slated to carry 25,000 people a day, including 40 percent of long-haul services from London Heathrow. Europe’s third-biggest carrier had already reverted to a reduced schedule in preparation for the appeals-court decision.

Cabin crew will also strike for five days from May 30 and June 5, as previously announced, should there be no settlement, Unite said in a statement.
