Severe Winter Storm

Posted on February 1, 2011

PROGRESS OF SEVERE WEATHER FRONT WILL NOT AFFECT TRAVEL RESOURCES’ NORMAL HOURS OF OPERATION

As a result of the winter storms affecting parts of Canada and the United States today and tomorrow, Travel Resources has been working diligently to protect passengers on alternate flights as schedules have been updated.

The progress of this severe weather front will not affect our normal hours of operation, and we will ensure that our agents will be available to assist travelers during our normal business hours.  In addition, our Emergency After-Hours Service is adding additional staffing to accommodate the expected increase in call volumes.  To contact this service please call the phone number outlined on your Travel Resources Itinerary.

Already, dozens of flights from Pearson International Airport have been cancelled or delayed due to snow in areas like New York, Chicago and Detroit.

Air Canada has issued a travel warning for several cities – including Toronto – due to weather.

At Billy Bishop Island Airport, Porter Airlines is warning passengers to check their flight status before arriving at the airport. The airline says delays and cancellations “may occur.”

While the snow may be grounding air travel, rail travel is expected to pick up the slack. VIA Rail says it is ready to handle an increase in demand by adding extra cars to its trains between Ontario and Quebec.

Airline Re-ticketing Policies: A number of major carriers have announced blanket waivers and re-ticketing policies to accommodate changes to travel itineraries affected by this blizzard.  Each policy is slightly different in geographic coverage and travel dates.  Our travel counselors will advise options at the time of change.
