Posted on May 24, 2011
MORE VOLCANIC ASH IN ICELAND
The recent eruption of Iceland’s Grimsvotn volcano has sent clouds of volcanic ash towards parts of Scandinavia and western Europe, which has drawn the attention of aviation authorities who are mindful of the hazards that ash causes for commercial airplanes.
Volcanic ash from the eruption has already caused flight cancellations and delays in Europe – with reports from a variety of sources indicating that between 250 to 500 flights at airports in the U.K., Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia being affected by the situation.
Travel Resources has worked diligently to protect passengers on alternate flights as schedules have been updated.
The Grimsvotn ash is projected to reach airports in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England by Tuesday afternoon.
Britain’s National Air Traffic Services said the ash is likely to affect airports in Londonderry, Northern Ireland; Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick in Scotland; and Newcastle, Carlisle, Durham Tees Valley and Cumbernauld in northern England.
Passengers in these regions were advised to check with their airlines before travelling to airports in these cities.
